In 2015, a previous version of world-renowned mixing engineer, Andrew Scheps, mixed "Lifeboats". Now he returns five years later as "Future Andrew'' to revisit the mix and see what has changed in his template.
See how future Andrew:
- Explains why he lobbied for the Pre-Fader send flag in Pro Tools
- A/Bs between his original Stereo Bus processing and his updated Stereo Bus processing
- Demonstrates how he uses reverb on the stereo bus to achieve the glue and cohesiveness of a Stereo Bus Compressor, without the compression
- Disses Andrew from 5 years ago and steals his gig
- Revisits the bass to get it to interact with the song, and enhance the midrange
- Uses clip gain as automation
- Crushes the room mics and uses them as a lift in the bridge
Watch future Andrew Scheps revisit his mix of Lifeboats, only on pureMix.net

Great series. It's always fantastic to learn from several people doing the same mix.

I'm new to Puremix and this series is awesome. Great content. I'm so glad I decided to join this platform of knowledge.

I thought I was crazy to use reverb on the mix bus. Now I feel exonerated! It really does glue things together. Really enjoyed this revisit.

“I’m a record and I’ve been mixed!” No. 1 quote of 2021 so far.

This made me try Elevate on my Mix Buss, be aware that it's very CPU intensive, but you can reduce the number of bands to reduce the CPU usage. And then you could increase them back to 26 bands when you bounce if you want to. I would love to see a video on Scheps' current template.

When he says "Rear Buss" is that just where you want to hear the bass? I never heard of "rear buss" before......

Great to see him come back 5 years later and changed things on his original mix. Proves we all keep evolving and growth is a continuous process. Nice video

Really enjoyed watching Andrew revisit his own work and make adjustments and revisions. Lifeboats has become a lasting bit of pureMix history!

Every time I hear Andrew speak, I learn something. You, sir, are a fountain of useful information and the fact that you are always evolving at this point is an inspiration.
But now... do I need to take the 33609 off my mix bus !? Gah.

How interesting! Thank you Andrew! I didn't realize that it has already been five years!! More videos like this one would be nice.
