Im a big fan of CLA, for his power, direct and humoristic talking and street wisdom/experience/knowledge, the man is also working very focused and musical and creative and there is one CLA, because he puts his signature way of being into the music and plays with the song to make it better, deeper and more alive... i found this a great session. it was refreshing for me to see how he treats the mix bus before anything (then the groups and then the individual elements), since i'm used to working in exactly the opposite direction. it seems much faster. i sometimes get stuck in wanting all the elements to be perfect and then lose touch with the actual/initial goal of the mix.
i can see this helping me detach myself better, when mixing my own projects. gradually zooming in from a zoomed out position.
i do have a question regarding this video. with the 2nd automation pass (on auto touch), all the group faders are back at zero and i don't see them follow the 1st automation pass. how does that work? is this a function in pro tools?

In the first chapter, CLA cuts camera to "do some housework" and suddenly returns with several huge kick and snare samples added to the session. This is such a huge ingredient for the song yet he completely glosses over where thes samples came from, why he chose them or even what they sound like isolated. The CLA samples are omitted from the Puremix exercise files download (understandably) but FFS, at least talk about what each sample is adding to this stew. I may already own these CLA samples (Steven Slate packages), so it'd be cool to see/hear CLA's process regarding drum samples.
