Ep.4 Working with the arrangement - part 1
Now that the chord progressions and vocal ideas are in place for the track, ill and Jared continue exploring vocal ideas and crafting the song's structure.
In his episode of the Puremix exclusive Start To Finish Series featuring ill Factor, Jared Evan, Jimmy Douglass, and Dave Kutch, ill Factor and Jared Evan begin to combine their ideas in real-time and map out the arrangement of "Light Shine Through."
See how ill Factor:
- Incorporates the arrangement view of Ableton Live into their creative process to begin mapping out the skeleton of the song
- Continues to add production ideas to the track while Jared works on vocal ideas and lyrics
- Creates "Vocal Chops" to be used as a production element along the way
- Adds textures to the track using Output's "Arcade" plugin
- Sketches out the song structure up to the bridge for Jared to lay down vocal ideas
- Records Jared's initial vocal ideas as they flow
- Starts adding creative effects like vocoders and more, even though the vocals are in rough form, to help inspire Jared and get the vibe of the track
- Exports the multitrack and two-track for Jared to take back to the hotel that night to continue to write to
